Magnificent Mile History
Plans for the commercialization of an eight block stretch in downtown Chicago started in earnest in 1912 by the Greater North Michigan Avenue Association. With the construction and completion of the Michigan Avenue Bridge, the Magnificent Mile saw rapid development to the area during the 1920s. Throughout the years, some of Chicago's most renowned landmarks would be added, including the Water Tower Place, Chicago Tribune building and the John Hancock Center.
